UPDATE APRIL 2, 2007: Dusty is 21 years old today. As I watched him out the window this morning while I was washing dishes. He gave me chill bumps. It is funny. I have seen a few ...and I mean a very few horses that gave me chill bumps at shows and auctions. I never dreamed that one of ours would affect me this way. After owning him since he was a yearling ... it just really hit me how gorgeous he is. His charming personality adds to his good looks. He has never attempted to bite, kick, rear or make any threatening moves. I love the way he cocks his head and looks me straight in the eyes when begging for a treat. I love the way he seems to watch me go under one of the electric fences and pushes it up with his nose and follows me under it. (he knows if I go over it, the fence is on. If I go under it , he knows it is off.) I love the way I can pull a grass string out of ny pocket, put it around his neck and lead him back under the wire. I laugh to myself when he doesn't come when called when we have a visitor wanting to meet him. Any other time We can call his name once and he comes running. I laugh at the way he loves buckskin mares. I would rather groom, bathe or handle him more then any horse we have ever owned. He has always been a pleasure to handle. Ride him bareback, stick a child on him and lead him around, just anything, he accepts. We still respect that he is a stud and we are very careful. I think of all the joy this gentleman has brought to out lives and I realized how blessed we have been. Happy birthday Dusty. You still look and move as well as any 3 year old. There isn't enough money in the world for anyone to buy you.
